• When did this start? Growing up in the 80s and 90s, only the victors (and maybe 2nd place) received trophys. I am pretty sure we all turned out fine, and if someone didn't, I don't think you can blame that on not receiving a trophy for showing up.

• Nope, no BS. I never received a "participation" trophy. Really, a trophy just for showing up? No wonder "kids these days" expect everything handed to them on a silver platter. They are "special"!
